The Artist's creative journey began with the art of collage. In an interview in Los Angeles, she reveals her fascination with Triple X newspapers found in kiosks across the city. She would eagerly search for the coveted want ads in the back of these free publications and carefully cut out images of beautiful women to incorporate into her collage works. For her, it was a way of giving these stunning ladies a "safe haven" on her wall, protecting them from the harsh realities of street life. This all started in 2007. Fast forward to 2020, during the pandemic, when the Artist finds inspiration in Andy Warhol's photographs. With charcoal and a keen eye for color and abstract shapes, she creates six squares and rectangles on paper. While rummaging through her stash of previously painted, stenciled, and printed papers, she comes across a first edition copy of "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf". Taking sections from the book and incorporating them into her art along with lines from the play that resonate with her, she creates a unique piece. Some may cringe at the thought of cutting up a first edition book, but this is exactly what the artist has done. To add more dimension to the pieces, she uses gouache paint in bright fluorescent colors and frames them using repurposed frames from an antique shop. These frames were salvaged from a recycling bin and given new life with careful sanding, painting, and application of gold leaf by the Artist. Each frame measures approximately 10" x 10" x 1" or 12" x 9" x 1". We hope you enjoy this whimsical collection.
