During the early 1900's rug hooking was a necessity. Hooked rugs covered the floors of the draft homes in Eastern Canada and the Boston States. Old woollen jackets, coats, pants and even long wool underwear were cut into long strips. With a hook these strips were pulled through a burlap bag (sometimes a potato bag) to create a loop. Fast forward to today and this craft has become an art form. Wools are dyed in beautiful colours and the backing is usually linen. The process of pulling loops is still the same. This rug was designed to be used on the floor; however it could be velcored to a piece of masonite and hung on the wall.
