"What Goes Around | Burgundy" is a small curvy abstract from a series of 15 paintings based on spirals in the natural world. Dozens of times I hiked past this crazy, photogenic, spirally vine. I'd anticipate its hugeness, twisting gracefully into the sky, gifting me with an enticing new view. Then one day, it was gone. I knew it was an invasive species whose desire would've eventually smothered its host tree. I knew it didn't belong. Or did it? It's the inspiration for this series, after all. In nature, spirals are the embodiment of strength and beauty. Throughout the natural world, from seashells to galaxies, to the foundation of all life—DNA, spirals have several patterns that can be mathematically described, such as the familiar Fibonacci sequence. As a meditative process, silence + painting + spirals has rhythm that reflects a simple honesty. Each work is a glimmer that can restore your sense of joy, wonder, and connection. That's the root of of this series and why I paint. 12W x 12H x .8D, panel cradled on natural wood so framing is optional. Wired and ready to hang, signed on reverse. Ships, carefully packaged, in a box. Please see additional photos for details.

She's licensed work to designers and consultants for projects large and small. "Artist and naturalist, I'm curious about how the land inspires awe, how we feel it deep in our bones, how to express that connection, and what we can learn from it. My process-focused work explores pattern, connection, and balance in the natural world. My investment-quality abstracts bring energy from the natural world to interior spaces." Artist and naturalist trained in studio art, graphic design, and landscape architecture, Michelle Louis' studio extends to her yard, where she nurtures an edible landscape.
