The American Victorian poet Emily Dickinson spent the last twenty years of her life almost without leaving her room, which the household saw only through a slightly ajar door. My photograph is a voyeuristic glimpse of an indiscreet eye trying to penetrate the secrets of an inaccessible interior. You can only see a fragment of the room with a woman's handbag hidden behind a white curtain. This is a metaphor for Emilia Dickinson's secretive personality and her voluntary lockdown. The curtain metaphorically evokes Emily's character, who at the time wore only white dresses. The soft light, bleached color and slight sfumato of the photograph is literally and metaphorically an image of time slowly passing. It references the serene melancholy of Emilia Dickinson's poetry. My photography is embedded in this complex discourse and dialogues with the understanding of photography as index, trace, imprint, archive, etc., redefining Roland Barthes' thought. At the same time, this seemingly serene scene has a disturbing aura, as in cinema noire: isn't the handbag hidden behind the curtain a testimony to something that might have happened in this room? My photography is a comparative approach to the process of producing images. Here I deal with the problem of the polymorphism of photography in the current situation of its "blurred meaning".
