Twelve original hand prints (each unique in colour) of found objects; a piece of metal as used in carpentry and a piece of a hollow logwood. It is a play with shape and the meaning of initials. Tolerance can be traced to 'tolero' (Latin; tolerate, bear, endure, raise) and it is also connected to 'tollere' (Latin; raise, lift, destroy). When the 'I' carries the 'u' we end up with the letter 'y' - 'Why - should I bear you?' Eventually the 'I' sits inside of 'u' - is the so created Hebrew letter 'shi' the initial of 'shalom' or 'sheol'? So yes, to tolerate is a prerequisite for peace but tolerance by itself may as well lead to disaster. For the sake of open edition prints / better visibility the image is placed upon a mat that appears in bright white - the print sells without that backing. The real wood print is done on 200gsm Fabriano printing paper (105 x 75 cm) slightly larger than in the photo as just in the photo the edges have been cut straight. Artistic value relates to many factors, part of it is a quality that comes from talent and practise as well as conceptual content and creativity. The artist’s insight that this work will rise as well in price tag value indicates that this continues to happen.

London-based artist works with found objects, printed ready-mades as well as wood and bronze sculptures. Samuel Buttner exhibits internationally, has received awards and commissions for art in public spaces, and his work is held in both private and public collections. 'Remembering how my drawings as an eight-year-old received much attention, then opportunities for training during my teenage years leading to an education of professional wood sculptor. During my mid-twenties that enigmatic pull into social work with creativity for children and engagement in the special educational needs sector. The sculptor, printmaker and conceptual artist is grounded in life drawing, anatomical studies, and plein air painting. Much of the above would befriend me with Vincent van Gogh, valuing that eye-brain-hand-coordination for authentic, ecstatic expressiveness. Being equally aware how the subconscious gets visualized where it has been said that positive stimuli is evident as well as an artist philosopher, hence resonating with the like Marcel Duchamp exploring that limitless creativity-of-the-mind; that which is outside the box.'
